Scotland's Heritage - a photographic journey through Scotland and her islands
is a travelogue exploring the landscape, the heritage and the allure of Scotland, and will feature John Hannavy's finest images of his native country. It follows in the style and tradition of some of the country's most enduring published accounts, with more than a passing reference to Boswell and Johnson, Thomas Pennant, Daniel Defoe, H V Morton and others, who have all explored Scotland, enjoyed its finest, endured its worst, and come back for more. Illustrated in stunning colour throughout, the book presents a picture of the country in several of her many guises, and celebrates the changing light which constantly redefines and reinterprets the landscape. A publisher for this project is currently being sought.

Victorian and Edwardian Scotland in Colour
This book explores life and work in Scotland between 1850 and 1910 through a stunning collection of Victorian and Edwardian photographs and postcards, the majority of them tinted. Arranged thematically, the sections look at everything from the jobs people did, to the many ways they occupied their limited holiday and leisure time. Included are fine studies of the hardy 'Scotch Fisher Lassies' who worked their way down the east coast of Britain gutting and pickling the herring, the people who lived and worked on Scotland's canals, the men who crewed the country's trains, trams and ferries, and a host of others. A publisher for this project is currently being sought.

Victorians and Edwardians on the move
is the fifth volume in John Hannavy's series for Shire, using early photography and postcards to explore life in Victorian and Edwardian Britain. Taking the broad theme of transport and the development of transport systems, the book will look at the impact which improved road and rail networks had on the mobility of the workforce, as well as looking at how British freight was shipped around the world. From the horse to the aeroplane, it all happened during the reigns of Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. The military on the move – in a time when mechanisation was making rapid inroads – will also be explored. A publication date will be announced shortly. Picturing the Past – an Unconventional Pocket History of Photography
is a new book project which sets out to deliver exactly what it says on the cover! Instead of revisiting the standard chronological account of photography's first one hundred and eighty years, the book picks up a number of themes and explores how they have influenced photography as we know it today. The selected themes are diverse, some of them focused on early photography – such as early patents, the first cameras, the first studios – while others pick up on themes of love and marriage, death, war, and many more, and look at how they have been dealt with by generations of photographers. The quest for colour, the development of speed systems, early exposure meters, and the relationship between guns and the terminology used in photography, are all explored. The Victorians and Edwardians at War
is a visual account of Britain's military achievements, through contemporary photographs and postcards. Over the past forty years, John Hannavy has made a long and detailed study of war photography, originally concentrating on the Crimean War, but subsequently broadening out to include a more general interest in the photography of Britain's armed forces at peace and at war up until the end of the Edwardian era, just a few years before the outbreak of the Great War. This book brings together nearly two hundred photographs and postcards covering the period from 1850 to 1910, and offers a rich visual history of the Victorians and Edwardians at war. A publisher for this project will be sought when the book has reached a more advanced stage.

Thomas Keith & John Forbes White's Scotland
Interest in the early Waxed Paper photography of Thomas Keith and John Forbes White has increased considerably in the 25 years since the publication of Thomas Keith's Scotland by Canongate in 1981. This project involves a major reappraisal of the work of these two eminent amateurs, with a view to publishing a revised monograph on their work. Scotland's Mediaeval Religious Houses
is a photographic celebration of the cathedrals, abbeys, priories, collegiate churches, friaries and nunneries of mediaeval Scotland. The result of several years travelling throughout the country, the book contains stunning images of every surviving site – from the well known to the lesser known.A publisher is being sought for this book.
